  • Job Title: Packaging Technologist

  • Reports to: Packaging Development Manager

Job Purpose:

To provide packaging technical support to implement packaging development in line with overall business strategy to ensure the timely delivery of cost effective packaging that meets both customer and regulatory requirements.


  • Turnover: £10 - £100m

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop packaging structural solutions across a range of projects and be responsible for checking and approval of all pilot samples
  • Commission check and obtain approval for packaging artwork. Ensure all technical and marketing issues are resolved and artwork budgets are monitored.
  • Organise and oversee production trials to ensure the suitability of finished goods
  • Carry out appropriate stability testing to ensure functionality and durability of packaging
  • Prepare packaging specifications, bills of materials and packaging instructions.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of technical developments and trends in packaging
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements pertaining to packaging of the company’s products


Educational and professional:

  • Graduate calibre (preferably science based)
  • Membership or working towards membership of the Institute of Packaging

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • 2 years knowledge and experience of the packaging industry including materials, manufacturing and printing
  • Supply chain knowledge
  • Presentation/communication skills
  • Computer skills
